The mission, Apollo 11, was a United States mission, and the first successful one to the moon. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were the astronauts aboard the mission, and both Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin got to walk on the moon. From NASA, "The primary objective of Apollo 11 was to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth." The nation celebrated as this goal was finally completed on July 20, 1969.
