We're calling on our community to donate bond paper! Last year's collection yielded enough paper to last nearly six months! Bond paper donations will be collected during Spirit Assemblies on Friday, 6/1 and Friday, 6/8. A special Saturday collection will also take place on Saturday, 6/9 from 8:00a uintil 12:00p. Your donations are greatly appreciated and have a direct impact on helping keep our school's supply costs down. Thank you all in advance for your support and generocity!

Calling all kid chefs: The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge invites parents of kids ages 8-12 to submit an original recipe for a lunch that is nutritious and delicious. All entrants have the chance to win a trip to Washington D.C. and the opportunity to be invited to attend a Kids’ “State Dinner” at the White House in August, where a selection of the winning healthy recipes will be served. The "State Dinner" will be attended by one child/parent team selected from each of the 50 states, plus D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Territories.
Let’s Move! is teaming up with Epicurious, the Department of Education and USDA to find great lunch ideas that are healthy, affordable, and — of course – tasty. Recipes can be submitted May 21 through June 17. Visit http://www.ed.gov/blog/2012/05/a-state-dinner-just-for-kids/ for more information. Hello Eagle Rock Families. Later this afternoon we here in Los Angeles will be treated to an Annular Eclipse of the Sun. Annular eclipses are different from total eclipses, where no "ring of fire" is visible.
A word of caution: Don't look at the sun directly during the eclipse! Experts say it's possible to cause permanent damage to eyesight. Click here to learn how to make a simple pinhole projector to view the eclipse, and NASA also recommends using binoculars to project the eclipse on a white card. The eclipse should be visible unless fog rolls in early Sunday night. This will be an historic opportunity to witness one of these celestial spectacles of which Los Angeles will not have another until the year 2071! NASA is predicting 85% coverage here in greater Los Angeles! Start of Partial Eclipse: 5:24p Max Eclipse: 6:38p End Partial Eclipse: 7:42p http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/ASE2012/ASE2012.html The 2012 American Cancer Society’s #RelayForLife is finally here! 24h Relay starts today at 9:00a.
