2016 marks the Centennial of the National Park Service which turns 100 on August 25, 2016; however, you and your families can take part in the celebration during National Parks Week. Beginning Saturday, April 16 and running through Sunday, April 24 you and your families are invited to visit any of our country's amazing National Parks for FREE!

The National Park Service is once again partnering with the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks, to present National Park Week, a presidentially proclaimed celebration of our national heritage.

Plan your visit by what you want to do or where you want to go. Here are some highlights during National Park Week:

April 16–24: Visit for free!

• Throughout National Park Week in 2016, every national park will give you free admission!

April 16: National Junior Ranger Day

• Explore, Learn, Protect! Kids can take part in fun programs and earn a junior ranger badge or become a Centennial Junior Ranger.

April 22: Earth Day

• On Earth Day, if you want to roll up your sleeves and pitch in with a project, look for a park where you can help out.

April 23: National Park Instameet

• Join an InstaMeet in a park. Gather in a designated place at a specific time to take photos and short videos to post on Instagram (and other social media) with the same hashtag: #FindYourParkInstaMeet, #FindYourPark, #EncuentraTuParque, #NPS100

April 24: Park Rx Day

• On Park Rx Day, parks will host fun recreational activities that encourage healthy lifestyles and promote physical and mental well being. (Looking to host your own event? Download A Guide to Planning Your Own National Park Rx Day Celebration [561KB PDF]).

Don't forget to check out www.nationalparkweek.org. There you can share your national park photos, videos, and tips. While you're there, learn all about the ways you can help support your national parks all year round.

Interested in a Volunteer Opportunity and to learn about our forthcoming Family Luau? Join our Events Chair, Beth Clark and other Eagle Rock Elementary parents next Tuesday, April 19 at 7:00p at the back patio of The Coffee Table. We're seeking parents and other school community members to assist with set up and decorate, but also to help plan and run the crafts and games.  And, of course, we'd love to hear of your great ideas, too!

Los Angeles Times annual Fesitval of Books is this weekend, Saturday 4/9 and Sunday 4/10 on the USC Campus, rain or shine. Over 500 authors, celebrities, musicians, artists and chefs will be on hand to inspire and entertain festival-goers!

General festival admission, including all outdoor programming, is free and does not require a ticket; however, indoor Conversations require free tickets (with a $1 service charge per ticket).

The oldest Renaissance Faire in the country returns with over 20 acres of pure fun featuring 13 stages of a variety of entertainment all day long. In addition, there's a fully armored joust, the Queen and her glittering Court, amazing arts and crafts, delicious food, fine spirits, music, dance, parades, rides and games. MORE

Begun in 1963 in Agoura, near Malibu, to create “living history” for school children and their families, the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire has grown into an annual interactive playground and gallery for over 200,000 participants and guests. ​​This coming Tuesday, April 5 is Eagle Rock Elementary's Annual Open House from 6:00-7:00pm with EREEF's Silent Auction from 5:30-7:30pm. This is the opportunity to tour your child's classrooms and those of other teachers. Take a moment to ask her or him questions, and allow them to show you what they've been busy doing!

Also, please remember to participate in EREEF's Silent Auction which will take place out on the playground. This year you'll find a variety of items including concert tickets, museum passes, summer camps and more up for auction!
