"Parent in Control" Friday, 09/05 8:30-10:00a (Room 49) | Free & open to all grade levels!

The school will begin hosting free parent classes called, Parent in Control, which is open to parents of all grades. 
  • Tuesday, 09/02 8:30-10:00 (Rm 49) Spanish
  • Friday, 09/05 8:30-10:00 (Rm 49) English

This workshop will be hosted by Catalina Barrios, LCSW, PSW and will help support and empower you as a parent. If you're interested in learning how to work with your child in a caring and respectful way, please consider attending.

Summer with Shakespeare

Twelfth Night | The Taming of the Shrew | A Merry Wind Blows | #ShakespeareSetFree

Bring the whole family as the Independent Shakespeare Company (ISC) returns to offer another exciting summer with their very popular and wonderfully entertaining  "Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival." 

All performances are free, though donations are gratefully accepted. Remember to bring a blanket or low-backed lawn chair. It gets cool when the sun goes down, so bring something warm to wear and please, no dogs.
  • Twelfth Night - opened June 26
  • The Taming of the Shrew - opens July 24
  • A Merry Wind Blows  - September 6

Summer is filled with fun - outside at the pool, exploring the backyard, and running around with friends. Make sure your child's summer is also a little educational. Summer reading programs are a great way to keep kids minds working during the summer, while still having fun! Many local libraries run summer reading programs, but if yours doesn't, there are plenty of free online resources to help you find interesting and fun books for your kids. Below's a list of free sites to get you started:

  • Diverse Summer Reading List for Kids

Summer Movie Express

Visit @RegalMovies theaters Tue/Wed mornings 10:00a for Family Friendly movies $1 only!

Regal Cinemas is screening family friendly movies Tuesdays & Wednesdays during their Summer Movie Express and admission is only $1. Tickets must be purchased at the theater and all movies start at 10:00 am. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute.

Heat Wave

Hydrate! |Check Family, Neighbors & Pets | Many City facilities serving as cooling centers #ReadyLA

To provide the public with relief from the heat, City of Los Angeles facilities are utilized as cooling centers. Those facilities include Senior Citizen Centers, Recreation and Parks facilities, and Libraries. 
 
If you plan to be outdoors, please take precautions to protect yourself from the sun and heat.  
  • Avoid the sun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the burning rays are strongest. 
  • Reduce physical activity. 
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and light colored lightweight, loose-fitting clothes when you are outdoors 
  • Avoid hot, heavy meals that include proteins. 
  • Set your air conditioner between 75° to 80°. If you don’t have air-conditioning take a cool shower twice a day and visit a public air conditioned facility. 
  • Drink plenty of fluids even if you are not thirsty. Avoid alcohol. 
  • Use sun screen with a sun protection factor of at least 15 if you need to be in the sun. 
  • Symptoms of dehydration and heat cramps include dizziness, fatigue, faintness, headaches, muscle cramps and increased thirst.
