Will visit us, Oct 19 (6:30p-9:00p) to host another exciting Stargazing Party!

Weather permitting (and the forecast looks great) our wonderful friends and volunteer astronomers from LAAS will set-up to share their passion for science during an evening of awe inspiring gazing at the stars.

We’ll attempt to catch Mars to the west as it sets around 7:30p.  The moon is a waxing crescent as it approaches the Quarter Moon and Sagittarius (with its galactic center) should be to the high southwest. We may also be treated to a possible glimpse of our neighboring galaxy Andromeda (M31) overhead in Pegasus.

There’s a good chance of viewing Neptune in Aquarius to the high south and Jupiter’s rising towards the east towards the end of our program.

The annual Orionids meteor shower is scheduled to peak during the early morning hours of Sunday, October 21; however, you just might glimpse one after our Stargazing Party has ended!

What’s a stakeholder you ask?

A "stakeholder" is anyone who lives, works, owns property within ERNC or who declares a stake in the neighborhood and affirms a factual basis for it and who is 16 years or older.

Note: Voters may be required to show more than one form of documentation to verify eligibility as a stakeholder. The City of Los Angeles, Department of Neighborhood Empowerment has sole discretion on the acceptability of document presented.  If a voter does not have proof of Stakeholder status, then the voter will vote provisionally.

Acceptable form of identification for Factual Basis Stakeholder voting status are:

-Valid CA Driver's License
-Valid CA Identification Card
-Picture ID (work ID, school, gym, club, credit card, etc.)
-Valid Passport
-Self-Affirmation to be eligible to vote for Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council
-Receipts from businesses within the neighborhood

You are invited to attend a “charrette” for the Eagle Rock Family of Schools tomorrow, October 2, 2012 from 4:00p-6:00p at the Eagle Rock High School Library.  As part of the District-wide master planning process, the Facilities Services Division (FSD) has conducted a study of each of the District's properties by high school complex.  This was done to capture current conditions on each campus and to identify issues that need to be addressed through construction and modernization projects, and then to create a conceptual master and/or conceptual modernization plan for each campus.

At this charrette, or public meeting/workshop devoted to a concerted effort to solve a problem or plan the design of something, facilities planners and outside architects will present their work so that decisions can be made to finalize the conceptual plans.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Zhongqiu Festival is a popular harvest festival celebrated by the Chinese dating back over 3,000 years. Farmers celebrate the end of the harvesting season on this date and Chinese family members and friends gather to gaze at the bright harvest moon and eat moon cakes.

As homage to this time of year, Los Angeles Chinatown will host  the 74th Annual Harvest Moon Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2011 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Be a part of history! #NASA invites Californians to participate in #OV105 (Space Shuttle Endeavour) historic flyover of the state Friday, Sept. 21.

At 8:00 a.m. PDT, NASA Television will air the departure  of  Endeavour from Edwards Air Force Base as it begins its California flyover: http://www.nasa.gov/ntv

Any time after 11:30 a.m., watch for flyovers of Endeavour passing regional landmarks such as
its future home at the California Science Center, Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey, Disneyland, The Getty Center, Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles City Hall, the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, Malibu Beach, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, the  Queen Mary, Universal Studios and Venice Beach, among others.

Finally, the SCA and Endeavour will land about 12:45 p.m., at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for an arrival ceremony before Endeavour is taken off the 747. The orbiter will be transported to the California Science Center next month.

The exact timing and path of the ferry flight will depend on weather conditions and operational
constraints. Some planned flyovers or stopovers could be delayed or canceled.
