National Children’s Dental Health observances began with a one-day event in Cleveland, Ohio and a one-week event in Akron, Ohio during February 1941. Since then, the concept has grown from a two-city event into a nationwide program. The American Dental Association held the first national observance of Children’s Dental Health Day on February 8, 1949. The single day observance became a weeklong event in 1955. And in 1981, the program was extended to a month-long celebration known today as National Children’s Dental Health Month. Fill out the permission form that was sent home and have your child seen by the in-school dentist on Wednesday, February 10th. If you have questions, call the school and ask about the dental visit on Wednesday. Follow these links for additional information about Children's Dental Health:
Happy #YearoftheMonkey | Sending you all warm wishes of peace & prosperity | Gung Hay Fat Choy According to historical documents, on the day when Shun, who was one of ancient China’s mythological emperors, came to the throne more than 4000 years ago, he led his ministers to worship heaven and earth. From then on, that day was regarded as the first day of the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar. This is the basic origin of Chinese New Year. China adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1911, so Chinese New Year was renamed the Spring Festival. The red posters with poetic verses on it were initially a type of amulet, but now it simply means good fortune and joy. Various Chinese New Year symbols express different meanings. For example, an image of a fish symbolizes “having more than one needs every year”. A firecracker symbolizes “good luck in the coming year”. The festival lanterns symbolize “pursuing the bright and the beautiful”. Cortines: Good evening, Los Angeles Unified Parents and Guardians, Today has been a difficult day, as L.A. Unified schools were closed for the first time in decades. Thanks to the extraordinary effort by Los Angeles Unified School Police and our law-enforcement partners, all L.A. Unified schools and charters have been inspected and Chief Steven Zipperman has given the all-clear for students to return to campus. Classes and after-school activities will resume tomorrow, December 16. All staff and students are expected to return. The District will have crisis counselors available for students and employees who may need additional support. I know that today’s events disrupted the lives of our students, our employees, and our families. I could not be more grateful for your understanding, trust, and support. When it comes to the well-being of our children, we will never take chances. Thank you |
