Eagle Rock Elementary School PTA General Meeting
February 19, 2020 ERE MPR I. Meeting called to order at 6:35pm. II. Minutes from the December 11, 2019 General Meeting were distributed and approved as presented. III. President’s Report – Emily Carlin a. Will continue to partner with EREEF and the school to help navigate the school’s budget b. In order to maintain the level of PTA support our school enjoys, we need to make the Rock-a-thon a success, please volunteer and engage with the drive IV. Update from EREEF – Jenny Nelson i. Night of Big Dreams raised a record $17K; developing plans with Ms. Leach and the teachers to develop a spending plan; likely will help fund improvements to the West Lawn and technology support for classrooms ii. The Open House Silent Auction is coming up on April 2, 2020; volunteers welcome to help gather items iii. EREEF funded a consultation with PlayWorks to assess our recess areas; they will provide a written report on ways we can make recess more inclusive and safe; this may lead to the develop of grants to garner financial support for improvements iv. Submitted a grant for $14K to support after school clubs v. A number of parents involved with EREEF have students who are graduating or have been involved for many years; please reach out if you are interested in getting involved vi. There is an EREEF meeting next Tuesday, February 25 th at 6:30pm V. Principal’s Report – Principal Stephanie Leach a. Budget update; two buckets of funding at risk: i. Title I status/funding based on percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch; LAUSD cutoff is 50%, federal cutoff is 40%; losing this status will result in the loss of funding and the costs of many PTA- funded programs (CDI, Garden Ranger) will rise as the rates we receive are based on our school’s Title I status; A policy endorsed by Jackie Goldberg, our LAUSD board member, seeks to mirror the federal minimum in our district which would help our school maintain Title I status ii. LAUSD in 2020/21 budget planning mode now; Ms. Leach reviewed proposed budget allocations; budget plan includes funding for part of the the Assistant Principal – this is critical to the safety of our school and parents are encouraged to thank Superintendent Martinez for this allocation; reach out to [email protected] for ‘thank you’ templates and advocacy information iii. Things like supervision aids, paper towels and toilet paper are funded out of the school’s reserves VI. Committee Reports a. Literacy – Noah Cox i. The Spring Book Fair is coming Friday, February 28 and will run through the following week; We need volunteers; expect to receive a sign-up link from your room parent soon ii. Proceeds from the last book fair will fund a literacy intervention program for students who need additional support prior to matriculation b. Yearbook – April Kibbe i. Happy with the new publisher and work on the yearbook is underway; some staff photos are missing – the PTA teacher rep will email teachers ii. Cover submissions (from sixth grade student) are due February 28 iii. Baby/kids photos are due April 2 iv. Please volunteer to help distribute yearbooks in May v. Please submit photos to [email protected] c. Arts – Jessie Cowan i. Awaiting Reflections contest results ii. The Bathroom Positivity project will happen in late March – look for updates next month d. Clubs & Rock-a-thon – Isabel San Vargas i. Spring Clubs – Launched this week; will run 8 to 12 weeks; some are being led by parents – please volunteer if this interests you ii. Rock-a-thon – March 27, 2020 1. Volunteers needed to execute what is the largest fundraiser of the year 2. Gathering sponsorships right now; if you own or are affiliated with a business, please consider a sponsorship (which could mean a cash donation, running a booth or donating items; levels are $200-$1000) please contact the PTA 3. There is a planning meeting this Friday at 8:15am, please attend! 4. Please attend the Spirit Assembly on March 6 for the kick-off VII. Nominating Committee – Kristin Culverwell a. Slate of candidates to be delivered via Room Parent email soon b. The general membership will vote at the March meeting c. Some appointed positions are open - if you are interested in those positions, please be in touch VIII. Treasurer Report – Kristin Culverwell i. Balance 1. As of December 31, 2019 was $112,745.14 2. As of January 28, 2019 was $107,203.09 ii. Bills/Check payments from December and January were presented (see detail) iii. Question: how many holiday gift cards were distributed and how was that determined? Answer: 72 were given out based on feedback from teachers that was provided to Ms. Oliva IX.
