Please join us at our next #PTA Meeting, Thurs, 3/21 6:30p. We’re electing officers for the coming year.

We invite all parents to consider taking on a role as one of our officers for the coming 2013-2014 school year.  This is an opportunity to become an influential member of our organization of parents, teachers and community members as we strive to enhance our children’s educational experience while promoting community among our teachers and administrators and accessibility for our parents/community members all the while making it fun - on and off campus.

Now, in order for your PTA to be as effective and truly representative of the school, it is essential to have as much parental involvement from a diverse section of parents as possible. Many working parents feel that they cannot be involved in the business and activities of the PTA because they cannot come to every meeting or be on campus during the day; however, the possibilities in ways you can help are nearly limitless.

The following positions will become vacant, are open to nominations and will be voted upon at our forthcoming meeting, this Thursday, March 21:

• President
• Vice President, Ways & Means (Fundraising)
• Treasurer
• Financial Secretary
• Auditor
• Parliamentarian

Remember, whatever your schedule, the Eagle Rock Elementary PTA welcomes you as an officer or committee chair!  

You can make a difference in our school community so consider a leadership role in your Eagle Rock Elementary PTA!

Congratulations to our 2013 LA County #ScienceOlympiad Team-tied 7th of 51 Elementary Schools.

On behalf of the Eagle Rock Elementary PTA we wish to congratulate our Gold Medal winning Science Olympians who competed with 51 other Elementary Schools (Division A) in what was a record setting number of competing Elementary Schools and what was also touted as the nation’s largest showing of Elementary Schools in the history of the Science Olympiad!  Our team participated in 20 events with each student participating in two or three events.

Thank you students and parents for your commitment and hard work in preparing for this annual challenge and additional thanks to our teachers Alicia Stanco (5th Grade) and Marvilla Bonilla (6th Grade) for leading our team and bringing home another Gold!

The following students competed in the 27th Annual Los Angeles County Science Olympiad which took place this past Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Occidental College.

4th Grade: Mathilda Barr, Eleanor Burnett-Stuart, Finn Dore, Keiko Utsumi and  Itzel Whyte-Aguayo

5th Grade: Ava Frisina, Treyton Littlejohn, Simone Midby, Lola Selby, Serena Strickland and Jasper Talwani

6th Grade: Jaasiel Alvarez, Erin Crouchley, Charlize Ea, Arianna Mah-Candelaria and Veronica Tossberg

We would also like to congratulate our neighbors at Dahlia Heights Elementary for their Gold Medal performance in their first appearance at the Science Olympiad!

Please join us for out next meeting, this Thursday, January 17 (6:30p) in the Multipurpose Room (MPR) where Dr. Posada will lead us in a conversation on School Safety and to review the details of our School Report Card.

Winter Wonderland
When school resumes for Sandy Hook, it will be in a new building. Parent-volunteers are working to ensure that the students are welcomed back by a winter wonderland with the entire school decorated with as many unique snowflakes as possible. We encourage senders to be as creative as possible, remembering that no two snowflakes are alike. Please make and send snowflakes by January 12, 2013 to the Connecticut PTSA.

Monetary donations will be accepted indefinitely to the Connecticut PTSA “Sandy Hook Fund” to provide ongoing support to the community. Please send checks to the Connecticut PTSA.

At this time of tragedy, children throughout our country may be struggling with their thoughts and feelings about the stories and images and they may turn to adults for help and guidance. PTA has many resources available to assist students, families, schools and PTAs in coping with school violence. For your generosity in making our Teacher Appreciation Lunch a tremendous & delicious success!

We had a terrific turnout and a wonderfully abundant display of food to share with our staff on Tuesday, December 11. 

The PTA would like to thank all of our parent volunteers without whom this would not have been possible.  You are a valuable asset to our school community!
